A Day at the Park with PoliMonitor
On a pleasant morning in early June, the PoliMonitor team headed not to Westminster but to Haggerston Park in East London. The political monitoring company swapped laptops for litter pickers, monitoring for mulching, and Tweets for… well, actual tweets.
In the interest of giving some good back to the community, as well as bonding as a team, we were on our way to our first park volunteering session. With the direction of the Head Gardener at Haggerston Park, we dedicated the first half of the day to filling nearly a dozen bin bags with rubbish. After a winding route around Hackney City Farm, the park’s BMX track, and the rose garden, the bags were brimming with food wrappers, cigarettes, and various ephemera, and we had definitely earned our lunch break.
The second half of the day was spent shovelling pine-scented mulch into wheelbarrows before scattering the nourishing mix to form a walkway alongside the farm. The sight of PoliMonitor’s co-founders racing up and down the woodland walk with loaded barrows certainly made a change from the usual routine!
Exhausted but triumphant after a day of beautifying the park, we were able to reflect on the steps that led us to that point. Around two years ago, PoliMonitor was based in East London and had half as many employees. Since then, we have gone from strength to strength. It’s not surprising that we’ve seen success; walking amongst the trees, encouraging resilience and growth, is not so different from what we aim to do for clients everyday.
At PoliMonitor, we approach every task with that sense of determination and opportunity. Our goal is to make a tangible difference, whether the outcome of that is passing on important information at lightning speed, or cleaning up a wonderful park.
